FUKU Okinawa

FUKU is an outdoors sandal inspired by the “European room” in legendary Japanese ceramicist Shoji Hamada’s Mashiko farmhouse (today a museum) as well as the mysterious poetry of rural life in the Ligurian hillside. The sandal is made from stacked lengths of Sardinian cork with two raised “teeth” at the front and back that remember the shape of Japanese geta sandals. Each “tooth” is soled with a length of grippy Vibram outsole making it suitable for walking down to your vegetable patch. The simple leather upper, featuring embossed rose patterns, is fastened to the sole through the use of a discarded beer bottle top, sometimes from beers we drank here in Liguria, sometimes from beers that Matteo, the owner of our shoe factory, Calzaturificio Ariana, drank in Civitanova Marche. Thanks to the use of natural materials – in particular the cork – these ultralight outdoor sandals will keep your feet fresh all through summer and age beautifully through use. As is always the case with Simona Vanth products the sandal is 100% Made in Italy with our network of small specialist suppliers.
