The Borges clog, a covered re-elaboration of Simona Vanth’s iconic The New Arabian Nights sole, is a hybrid sculpture form that evokes the metallic underbelly of the endless night of “A Gaucho Wedding”, the theme of our Autumn-Winter 2021 collection. The shoe exists in a time-warp of allusions, between the knife blades of certain Borges short stories set in the slums of Buenos Aires (where the tango itself was born), dreams of a soulless future and so on. The shoe has been manufactured from the same beech wood as previous Simona Vanth clogs, the heel has been separately airbrushed with four layers of silver nitrate paint before being chemically catalyzed with a chrome finish and sanded. The upper maintains the same split-toe thong construction as sandal models (you will need tabi socks to be able to wear the shoe in winter) and is constructed from a premium Italian mirror-laminated calfskin. The shoe is nailed and finished by hand in our customary factory, Calzaturificio Arianna. Being unaccustomed to using these manufacturing techniques, the cobblers of Calzaturificio Arianna have given the shoe an even more unusual and striking aspect.
